CONSTRUCTION:
With right sides facing sew the Back (1) and Front (2) shoulder seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press to the back.
Neaten the neckline with an overlocker/serger. Turn the neckline to the inside and stitch down with a 6mm (1/4″) topstitch. Press.
On the bodice, neaten the top area of the back and front armhole with an overlocker/serger. Turn the seam to the inside and stitch into place. Start from the notch in the middle of the front armhole, continue sewing over the shoulder seam and finish at the notch in the middle of the back armhole. Press.
Stabilise the top of the Sleeve (3) with clear elastic. Neaten the seam with an overlocker/serger, turn to the inside and stitch down with a 6mm (1/4″) topstitch.
With right sides facing sew the armhole of the front sleeve to the armhole of the front body, matching the notches. Repeat for the back armhole/back sleeve. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and bar tack the seam allowance to the bodice at the right-angle seam. This will reinforce the seam and prevent the seam showing when the garment is worn.
With right sides facing sew the front and back side seams. Sew from the hemline of the body up to the underarm and continue sewing along the sleeve seam. Neaten seam with an overlocker/serger and press to the back.
Neaten the hem and sleeve openings with an overlocker/serger, turn to the inside at the notches and stitch into place with a twin needle, cover stitch or plain machine topstitch. Take care not to rope (twist) the hem whilst sewing.
Lightly press your new top!
