From the right side understitch close to the seam on the side of the pocket bag. Press pocket towards the inside.

TUTORIALS continued again (15)Sew the second set to the pockets to the rounded edge of the previously sewn pockets, this creates a pocket. The straight edge is left free to sew to the back-body’s side seam. Neaten around the outer rounded edge of the pocket, and press pocket towards the inside.

TUTORIALS continued again (16)With right sides facing sew the front side seam to the back side seam, start sewing the seams together at the underarm, sew down the side seam stitching through the straight edge of the back pocket, be careful not to catch the front pocket opening as you sew.

TUTORIALS continued again (17)Neaten the centre back seams using an overlocker/serger. With right together sew up the centre back seam of the body, starting at the hemline, and continuing up to the spilt notch. Press seam open.

TUTORIALS continued again (19)Fuse front and back facing pieces. With right sides facing sew the back facing pieces together, starting at the hem and stopping at the split notch. Press seam open.

TUTORIALS continued again (20)With right sides together sew the under-arm seams of the front and back facings together, press seams open.

TUTORIALS continued again (22)With right sides facing pin the facing to the body, once in place sew around the armholes and the front and back necks stopping at the notches that are placed 5cm (2”) down from the shoulder.

TUTORIALS continued again (23)With right sides facing fold the back neck loop in half, lengthways. Sew down the middle twice and turn out to the right side. Create a loop by sewing the two ends of the loop together, then place on the left back body and stitch down. The loop will face inward at this stage, once the neck facing is sewn to the body and turned out the loop will face outward.

TUTORIALS continued again (24)With right sides facing continue sewing the facing to the body, down the back neck split.

TUTORIALS continued again (25)Press the armholes, front, and back neck to the inside (facing side). Turn to the right side and under stitch where possible.

Pull the shoulder seams through to inside and pin the main body front and back shoulder seams together and sew. Do the same for the facing shoulder seams. Press each seam open.

TUTORIALS continued again (27)With right sides facing pin the 5cm (2”) openings on the armhole and neck, matching the shoulder seams, once in place stitch together. Press seams towards the facing.

Sew a button to the right back neck to line up with your loop.

Turn the hem to the inside and stitch (please note this dress was shortened by about 2 inches).

Lightly press your new dress.
