CONSTRUCTION (PHOTO TUTORIAL SHOWS TOP B ONLY)
TOP B:
Sew a staystitch to the Front (9) and Back (10) necklines to prevent stretching. With RST sew the Front and Back shoulder seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back. Neaten the hemline with an overlocker/serger.
With RST, sew the Front Neck Facing (7) and Back Neck Facings (8) together at the shoulders. Press the seams open. Neaten the outer edges with an overlocker/serger.
With RST and notches aligned, sew the centre back seam of the neck facing to the vertical top edge of the button turnback. Turn the 1cm (⅜”) turnback seam allowance under to the inside (wrong side) and press.
With RST sew the neck facing to the neckline and across the turnback. Clip the corners.
Turn the facings to the right side at the notch, press and understitch on the side of the neck facing.
With RST fold the hem edge of the turnback at the foldline marked on the pattern and stitch across the base. Clip the corners, turn out to the right side and press.
Pin the neck facing and the turnback to the body and topstitch the outer edges of the facing. When arriving at the back vertical seam, with the needle down, pivot at the corner and sew along the edge of the turnback, finishing at the hem.
With RST sew along the length and the points of the Epaulette (11). Clip the corners, turn out to the right side and press. Edge stitch around the outer edges.
Sew a buttonhole to the pointed end of the epaulette as marked on the pattern. Neaten the base of the epaulette with an overlocker/serger.
Sew the epaulette to the inside shoulder seam where marked on the pattern.
Neaten around the armhole and along the side seams with an overlocker/serger.
With RST sew the front and back side seams together, start sewing at the armhole and finish at the split notch.
Turn the armhole seam allowance to the inside, press and topstitch around the armhole.
Stitch the front and back hems followed by turning back and topstitching around the side splits.
Sew the buttonholes to the left side of the turnback and the buttons to the right side. Refer to the markings on the patterns.
Sew a button to the shoulder, see button markings on the pattern.
Press your new top.
TOP A:
Sew a staystitch to the Front (1) and Back (2) necklines to prevent stretching. With RST sew the Front and Back shoulder seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
Sew the bust darts and press down.
With RST sew the front and back side seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
With RST, sew the Front Neck Facing (7) and Back Neck Facings (8) together at the shoulders. Press the seams open. Neaten the outer edges with an overlocker/serger.
With RST sew the Front Armhole Facings (5) and Back Armhole Facings together at the shoulders and the underarm. Press the seams open. Neaten the outer edges with an overlocker/serger.
With RST and notches aligned, sew the centre back seam of the neck facing to the vertical top edge of the turnback. Turn the 1cm (⅜”) turnback seam allowance under to the inside (wrong side) and press.
Press the turnback to the inside (wrong side) at the foldline marked on the pattern, and press the facing toward the main body.
With RST and notches & seams aligned, sew the neck facing to the neckline and along the turnback using a 6mm (¼”) seam. Clip the corner. Press and then understitch on the side of the facing.
With RST sew the Front Hem Facing (3) and Back Hem Facings (4) together at the side seams. Press the seams open. Sew the centre back seam of the hem facing to the lower turnback seam as you did with the neck facing. Clip the corner.
Turn the hem facings to the right side, press and then understitch on the side of the hem facing.
Pin the neck and hem facings to the body and topstitch around the outer edges of the facings. When arriving at the centre back seam, turn the seam allowance inwards and with the needle down, turn the corner and sew down the edge of the back turnback. When arriving at the hem facing, with the needle down, turn the corner and sew around the hem; continue sewing until arriving at the opposite side.
With RST, and notches and seams aligned, sew the armhole facings to the armhole with a 6mm (1/4”) seam. Turn to the right side, press, and understitch on the side of the facing. Pin the facing to the body, topstitch around the outer edge of the facing.
Sew the buttonholes to the left side and the buttons to the right side. Refer to the markings on the patterns.
Press your new top.
