OUT OF HAND
Making, creating, sharing something of ourselves. Lisa Waup’s OUT OF HAND reminds us how central the human hand is to personal expression.
Bringing art, fashion and craft together, the project celebrates textiles as a way to tell cultural stories. We’re proud to have collaborated with Lisa on the garment shown on the runway. Here, we’re sharing the artist and the story behind the cloth.

Lisa Waup
Born in Narrm (Melbourne), Lisa is a mixed-cultural First Nations artist and curator working across weaving, printmaking, photography, sculpture and fashion.
Her work is deeply personal and political, connecting lived experience and cultural identity with Country. Lost history, ancestral relationships, motherhood and the passage of time are recurring threads.
“they’re able to explain my story in different ways, they all connect with each other.”
LISA WAUP ON WORKING ACROSS DIFFERENT MEDIUMS
A thread of connection
Inspired by the natural wonder of a spider’s web, Lisa’s artwork reminds us that we are all part of something bigger.
The cloth was hand-printed with a local screen-printing studio in Melbourne, on hand-loomed Indian linen. Through wearable art, Lisa’s stories take another form.
Sustainability is at the core of Lisa’s practice, alongside ethical making and cultural legacy.
