Shop the Kitt Knit Dress
CONSTRUCTION
Pockets:
Neaten the top edge of each Pocket (3) using an overlocker/serger.
Fold the top edge of the pocket to the inside at the notch and topstitch into place. Press.
Press the bottom edge and the straight edge of each pocket 1cm (3/8”) to the inside. You will have a pair.
Pin the pockets to the Front (1) between the notches on the side seam.
Baste stitch the pocket to the side seam and then carefully edge stitch the two outer edges of each pocket to the front body.
With RST, sew the Front to the Back (2) at the shoulder seams. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
With RST, sew the short ends of the Inside Neck Bind (4) together using a 6mm (1/4”) seam, creating a loop. Press the seam open.
With WST, fold the binding in half lengthways and press. Baste the raw edges of the binding together.
With RST and the neck bind seam to the centre back, pin the raw edges of the binding to the neck opening, then sew with a 6mm (1/4”) seam. Carefully clip the seam at the centre front.
Press the seam toward the binding, then sew an understitch to the seam on the side of the binding.
Turn the binding to the inside of the neck opening and pin into place. Edge stitch the binding to the body, sewing along the folded edge of the bind.
To finish your V, sew a small dart to the binding at the centre front (see diagram).
With RST, sew the front to back at the side seams. Neaten using an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
Neaten the arm openings and hem using an overlocker/serger. Turn the arm openings and hem to the inside at the notches, pin, then topstitch. You may choose to use a twin needle. Press.
Trim any loose threads and carefully press your new dress.
