CONSTRUCTION
BACK POCKET:
Neaten the top edge of the Pocket (4) with an overlocker/serger. Fold the pocket top over with RST where marked on the pattern. Sew down each side of the turnover, clip the corners and turn the pocket top out.
Turn the remaining outer pocket seams inward and press.
Pin the pocket to the right Back leg (2) as marked on the pattern. Once in place, edgestitch around the outer edges of the pocket.
WAISTBAND
With right sides together sew the centre back seams together and press open.
Cut the elastic to your personal length, refer to elastic chart. Lay the ends of the cut elastic over each other and sew together securely. Mark the elastic with chalk at the centre front & sides, this makes it easy to match it to the waistband and to achieve an even spread of elastic.
Fold the waistband in half lengthways with wrong sides together (WST) and press. Pin the elastic to the inside of the band below the fold line.
Stitch the elastic to the waistband with a zigzag stitch.
Fold the waistband over to the right side and baste stitch the two raw edges of the waistband together to hold in place.
LEGS, CUFFS AND COMPLETION:
With RST sew the front and back inleg seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
With RST sew the back and front crotch seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serge and press toward the wearer’s right.
Neaten the angled seam of the side front panel and the angled seam of the side front with an overlocker/serger. With RST and notches aligned sew the side front panel to the side front. Press the seam open and topstitch on either side of the angled seam.
With RST sew the front and back outer leg seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
Pin the made up waistband to the pant with notches aligned, then sew the waistband to the pant. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press downward.
Neaten each hem with an overlocker/serger. Fold the hem to the inside once at the fold line marked on the pattern and stitch into place. Fold the cuff up to the outside, following the notches on the pattern and stay stitch at the inleg seam and side seam to hold the cuff in place.
Press your new pants.
