This was fun & the finished product is stunning. It is put together in unique way but just have faith & follow the directions. Because I doubted myself, I did a good bit of talking aloud to myself as I pinned the sections, but the outcome is phenomenal. I used a thin, mechanical stretch only knit in a fake black mountain lamb. It is superb & I’ll readily make it again.

A fun cardigan to make but gosh I needed an extra cup of coffee to figure out how the pieces joined together. But when I did it looked great! I chose fabric that was a bit too drapey/light so next time I’ll try something with more weight to it. Also it looks better if you can sew the seams of the collar completely inside out to give it that extra polished look when you turn it right side out. Not easy to do but looks great once finished.

This was a lot of fun to put together! The pieces are unusually shaped and I did have several head-scratching moments. However, if you label everything and follow the instructions, it will all come out right in the end! I wasn’t in love with the finished look on myself, though. I think this would be great as a dress-up item, maybe in a silky knit to wear over a dress. For me personally, the design interferes a little with the momement of my arms. I’d be fine with that for special occasions, but I’m going to stick with other patterns for more casual wear.

Loved the look of this pattern from the moment I saw it. Must be the quickest I have ever made a Style Arc pattern ordered it on 3 October and it was made by the 18th!

The pattern is a bit too oversized for me so I made the size 6 instead of my normal 10/12. This was the right choice as the finished shrug is fabulous and cosy made in a Liberty Linford sweatshirting.

Carefully marking the A, B, C annotations on the fabric make this a breeze to sew. A very relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon with the overlocker and a bit of hand sewing. Such a successful garment already have fabric lined up for three more.

What a surprise. I love it!
If the Palermo Jacket had not been part of a set I would not have purchased it because I believed shrugs don’t suit my body shape.
I used a very drapey lightweight knit that had been sitting in my stash for too long.
The pattern pieces are unusual shapes and piecing took me longer that usual, mainly because the colored pins that I put in to mark B & C points fell out.
The diagrams showing the construction were really helpful.
Once pinned together it was an easy sew.
I added an iron-on hemming tape to give the hem more definition.
I didn’t realize I needed a shrug in my wardrobe until I made the Palermo jacket. I like the shape and the length is perfect.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
