Great pattern. Easy to make. Fits nicely and really comfortable to wear. Made it out of a cotton sateen.

A very simple pattern only complicated by my nerves of sewing with beautiful silk, and the pressure to make it for my daughter’s Year 12 formal (to be worn with a 1990’s vintage corset). I agree with others here about cutting on the bias with only a quarter of the pattern. I followed advice and mirrored the pattern with extra paper, so I could lay each whole side down and mark it out., and make sure it was on the cross. At first I tried flipping the pattern, but the silk made everything very slippery, and I wasn’t confident enough to make a cut! In the end it turned out fine but I would do French seams next time. Nice to have a simple pattern that can be easily upgraded into something special.

Love this pattern, it was such an easy make. I think I’ll make the pattern as one piece as others have done as one, instead of flipping it. Definitely making more in viscose rayon and linen for the summer.

I made the Genoa Skirt in a size 12 but it came up very big so did large seam allowance, it is very easy to take in, a very easy make and looks quite effective.
I had not made a bias cut skirt for myself before as I thought it would not suit me, but saw it on others and decided it may be ok. It actually looks great, made in a light weight linen a Nerida Hansen Miss Moresby; Farm and Stars Print, beautiful fabric, very pleased with the pattern. I will make this skirt again.

Super easy and quick to sew, i did what someone else suggested and made a full pattern piece. It was much easier to sort out my placement on the fabric.
Made mine put of a soft linen so it has a lovely drape, already have a second one cut out in a cotton. https://www.instagram.com/p/CkuGPqZPD3n/

I made the Genoa skirt in size 16 from midweight linen purchased from purelinenenvy.ca in “Driftwood”. Very easy and quick to sew, but came out much too large. I’m a size 20 and it fit me. I will make another for my daughter but size down to a 12.
It would have saved a great deal of work if the pattern piece was a full front/back piece instead of just a half. Laying out on the bias can be tricky enough but working with only half a piece that had to be flipped was ridiculous. One does not cut out on the fold on the bias as it causes distortion of the fabric. I will be making a full pattern piece for myself for future projects using Genoa.
The cut of the skirt is very attractive and falls beautifully in the linen. I shortened it to be a few inches below the knee and it’s cool and breezy in the heat, and quite stylish.

Easiest skirt I’ve ever made! A little on the larger size so should have made the 12. Looks very nice.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
