WAISTBAND:
Pin the elastic to the wrong side of the Back Waistband (4) positioning it as marked on the pattern.
Sew the elastic into place using a zig zag stitch. This is the inner waistband.
With RST, sew the pair of Front Waistbands (3) together at the top seam using a 6mm (1/4″) seam.
Press the seam to one side and sew an understitch. This is the inner waistband.
With RST and ensuring the inner waistbands are aligned, sew the back waistband to the front waistband at the short ends.
Press the seam toward the front. Fold the waistband in half lengthways, encasing the elastic and pin the raw edges together. Press, then baste the raw edges of the waistband together.
Set aside until step marked **
POCKETS:
With RST, pin the Pocket Bag (5) to the Front (1) at the pocket opening and sew. Press the seam toward the pocket and understitch.
With RST, pin the Pocket Bearer (6) to the pocket bag and sew around the curved edge. Neaten using an overlocker/serger.
Turn the pocket to the inside, press the pocket opening and baste the pocket to the front at the waist and side seam.
MAIN BODY:
Sew the Back (2) darts and press toward the centre back.
With RST pin the front to back at the side seams. Sew the side seams together, starting at the waist and finishing at the hem.
Neaten using an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
With RST sew the front and back inseams together.
Neaten using an overlocker/serger and press towards the back.
With RST sew the crotch seams together. Start at the back waist, sew down to the base of the crotch then continue sewing up the front crotch, finishing at the front waist.
Neaten using an overlocker/serger and press to one side.
WAISTBAND AND COMPLETION:
** With RST and notches aligned, pin the outer waistband to the top of the pants. Sew, then neaten using an overlocker/serger. Press the seam down.
Neaten each hem using an overlocker/serger.
Turn to the inside 3cm (1 ¼”) hem notch, or to your preferred personal length, and top stitch into place.
Trim any loose threads and carefully press your new pants!
