CONSTRUCTION
POCKETS:
With RST and aligning notches, sew one set of the Pockets (7) to the Front (2) mid seam (marked ‘A’ on the pattern). Clip the seam at the notches and sew an understitch on the side of the pocket bag. This is pocket bag 1.
With RST, lay pocket bag 2 on top of pocket bag 1, align and sew both pocket bags together (seamline ‘B’ on the pattern). Note that the straight edge of the under pocket is left free to sew to the Side Front. Neaten around the pockets using an overlocker/serger. Secure stitch each end of the pocket opening.
With RST and notches aligned, pin the Front to the Side Front (3). Sew along the seam, through the straight edge of the back pocket (pocket bag 2) and finishing at the hem. Take care not to catch the front pocket opening as you sew.
Neaten the seam using an overlocker/serger and press toward the side.
BODY AND SLEEVES:
With RST and notches aligned, sew the Side Front (3) side seam to the Back (1) side seam. Neaten with an overlocker/serger, press toward the back.
Sew the dart at the head of the raglan Sleeve (4) and press it toward the back.
With RST and notches aligned, sew the under-sleeve seams together. Neaten using an overlocker/serger, press toward the back.
With RST and notches aligned, sew the sleeve into the raglan armhole. Neaten using an overlocker/serger, press toward the sleeve.
Sew a stay-stitch around the neckline to retain a good neck shape.
RIB NECK BAND:
With RST sew the two short ends of the Neck Band (8) together. With WST fold the band in half lengthways and sew a basting stitch to the raw edges of the neck band to hold in place.
Pin the neckband to the neckline and sew with a 0.6mm (¼”) seam. Note that the neck band is slightly stretched on, the amount of stretch is determined by the stretch component in your knit fabric. Press the seam down and sew an edge-stitch to the seam on the side of the body.
RIB CUFFS:
With RST sew the short Sleeve Cuff (5) ends together. With WST fold the cuff in half lengthways and sew a basting stitch to the raw edges of the cuff to hold in place.
With RST sew the cuff to the sleeve opening. Neaten using an overlocker/serger, press up toward the sleeve. From the right side sew a 6mm (¼”) top stitch to the seam on the side of the sleeve.
RIB HEM BANDS AND COMPLETION:
With RST sew the short ends of the Hem Bands (6) together. With WST fold the hem band in half length-ways and sew a basting stitch to the raw edges to hold in place.
With RST, and seams and notches aligned, sew the hem band to the hem of the body. Neaten using an overlocker/serger, press up toward the body. From the right side, sew a 6mm (¼”) top stitch on the side of the body.
Lightly press your new sweater dress.
