CONSTRUCTION
MAIN BODY:
With RST sew the Front (1) to Back (2) at the shoulder seams. Neaten using an overlocker/serger and press toward the back. Sew a stay stitch to the neckline to prevent stretching.
With RST, sew the short ends of the Neck Bind (4) together, creating a loop. Press seam open, then with WST, fold in half lengthways and press. Baste stitch the raw edges of the binding together.
With RST, pin the neck binding to the neck opening, aligning the join with the centre back, and sew using a 6mm (1/4”) seam.
Press the neck seam toward the binding and sew an understitch on the side of the binding.
Pin the binding to the inside of the neckline and topstitch the binding into place. Press.
Starting 5cm (2”) up from the notch indicating the side split in the front, neaten the side split and around the hem using an overlocker/serger. Repeat with the back.
With RST, starting at the under arm, sew the front to back at the side seams, finishing at the notch indicating the side split. Neaten using an overlocker/serger, from the under arm as far as the previously neatened edges.
Press the seam toward the back and press the top of the split open.
SLEEVES:
With RST, sew the underarm seam of the Sleeve Facing (3) together. Press seam open.
Press the outside edge of the facing 1cm (3/8”) to the inside.
With RST and notches aligned, sew the sleeve facing to the sleeve opening using a 6mm (1/4”) seam.
Press the seam toward the facing and under stitch on the side of the facing.
Turn the facing to the inside of the sleeve and pin into place, maintaining the folded edge. Top stitch the facing into place.
HEMS AND COMPLETION:
Turn the neatened hems to the inside 1cm (3/8”) and press. Turn again at the hem fold notch, pin into place and sew.
Turn the seams of the side splits to the inside and top stitch all the way around. Trim any loose threads and carefully press your new top.
