With right sides together sew the front and back ‘in leg’ seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger.

TUTORIALS continued again

Sew the crotch seams together (I like to insert one leg inside the other with right sides together) start sewing from the back waistband and sew down to the base of the crotch then continue sewing up the front finishing at the front waist, matching seams as you go. Neaten with an overlocker/serger.

WAISTBAND:

TUTORIALS continued again (2)

With right sides facing sew the centre back seams together and press seam open.

Cut the elastic to your personal length (refer to elastic chart). Lay the ends of the cut elastic over each other and sew together securely. Mark the elastic with chalk at the centre front and sides, this makes it easy to match it to the waistband and to achieve an even spread of elastic.

TUTORIALS continued again (3)

Fold the waistband in half and press. Unfold and pin the elastic to the inside of the band below the fold line.

TUTORIALS continued again (4)

Stitch the elastic to the inside of the waistband using a zig-zag stitch, stretching the elastic as you sew.

TUTORIALS continued again (6)

Fold the waist band over to the right side (enclosing the elastic) and sew a stay stitch to the two raw edges of the waistband to close the waistband and hold in place.

TUTORIALS continued again (7)

Pin the made-up waistband to the pant; once in place stitch on, take care to match the notches as you sew the waistband to the pant. Neaten with an overlocker/serger.

TUTORIALS continued again (8)

Fold the hem to the inside and stitch.

Lightly press your new pants.
