CONSTRUCTION:
Neaten each front crotch seam with an overlocker/serger.
From the inside sew the four front and back darts. Press toward the side seams and edge stitch close to the seam of each dart.
With right sides together sew the side seams of the front and back waist facings together and press open.
With right sides together sew the top edge of the fly facing to the edge of the right front waist facing, press towards the waist facing. Understitch close to the seam on the side of the waist facing.
With right sides together sew the fly to the right front crotch, turn to the right side and understitch on the side of the fly.
With right sides together sew the front and back in leg seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the back.
With right sides together fold the fly bearer in half and sew across the top edge. Clip the corner, turn out to the right side and press.
Neaten the long edge and base of the bearer with an overlocker/serger.
With right sides together sew the left edge of the zip tape between the notches on the neatened edge of the fly bearer.
Sandwich the zip between the fly bearer and the front left crotch seam and stitch together.
Turn to face and understitch stitch close to the seam on the side of the left front leg.
Stitch the zip to the fly facing, starting in from the notch marked on the pattern and approximately 2cm (¾”) in from the seam edge. Be sure to keep the bearer out of the way.
With right sides facing sew the front crotch seams together finishing at the base of the zip.
With the bearer still out of the way, return the right front to its place and topstitch around the right fly.
Return the bearer to its place and from the inside, stitch the bearer to the curve of the fly facing to secure to the right front.
Neaten each back crotch seam with an overlocker/serger. With right sides facing sew the back crotch seams together, start sewing at the * marking at the waist and stitch down the crotch, finishing in line with the front crotch seam.
With right sides facing sew the front and back side seams together, neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the back.
With right sides together sew the left waistband to the waist, start at the back ‘V’, stitch around to the right front and then stitch around to the left front. From the inside stitch the end of the left facing to the bearer, repeat for the right side.
From the right side understitch close to the seam on the side of the facing. With right sides together sew each side the ‘V’ from the star * mark on the pattern stitching up to the waistline.
COMPLETION:
Hand stitch the waist facing to the side seams to hold the facings in place.
Sew a hook & bar above the zip, or a button and buttonhole.
Neaten the hems with an overlocker/serger, turn the hems to the inside and hand stitch.
