CONSTRUCTION:
With RST and notches aligned sew the centre Back (2) seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the wearer’s right.
With RST sew the Front (1) shoulder seam to the Back shoulder seams. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
With RST sew the short ends of the Neck Bind (3) together. Press the seam open, turn to the right side and with WST press the neckband in half lengthways. Sew the raw edges together with a basting stitch.
With RST pin the raw edges of the neck bind to the neck of the body. Align the centre back seam of the neck bind with the centre back seam of the body and the centre front neckband notch to the centre front body. Once in place stitch together using 6mm (¼”). Neaten with an overlocker/serger the seam and press toward the body.
To create the ‘V’ shaped neck, sew a dart shape approximately 6mm (¼”) wide on the inside of the band, starting at the folded edge of the band to zero at the neck stitch line.
Sew an edge stitch close to the neck seam on the side of the body.
Neaten the armhole with an overlocker/serger. Turn in once to the inside and sew with a topstitch.
With RST sew the front and back side seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
Sew a bar tack on top of the seam at the base of the armhole for reinforcement.
Neaten the hemline with an overlocker/serger, turn the hem to the inside at the hem notch and stitch with a twin needle, cover stitch or plain machine topstitch. Take care not to rope (twist) the hem whilst sewing.
Press your new tunic top.
