Description

This sophisticated midi dress will effortlessly elevate your wardrobe. It is a regular fit with a slightly blouson bodice and flowy skirt which falls from the shirred waistline. We have provided two bodices, one to use with the feminine, shirred cuff sleeve or alternatively a bodice for a sleeveless look. The curved hem gives this style a totally up to the moment feel.

    Asha is one of my favourite dress patterns, I’ve made the sleeveless version 3 times and the long sleeved dress once. I used rayon, bamboo rayon and rayon crepe. I sewed the waistband, skirt and bodice pieces together before shirring, then the side seams. This proved less fiddly. The Asha is lovely to wear.

    If you like dresses, you should try this one! The Asha is such a versatile dress and has quickly become a favorite of mine! It can be made dressy or casual, depending on the fabric choice. I particularly like it in the sleeveless version. I find the pattern very hackable, and modern.

    Loved this dress and couldn’t wait to make it, but the pattern is way too big for me, I am a curvy fit and short, only 5′ 2″ though my measurements on the chart seamed correct I took it down to the 18, and it was still huge. Didn’t have a problem with the instructions and unpicked everything and am going to shorten the bodice length on the pattern and try again. XX hope this was helpful to somebody.

    This is a great dress, really happy with it. Love the shirred waist and the gathered neckline. I sized down and I am really glad I did because it would have been too big.
    If you are a beginner you will struggle with the basic instructions… as a more experienced sewer they were enough for me. The stitch sisters have a great video about shirring.

    I made this pattern twice – 2 looks. First time shirring and my sewing machine didn’t like it so I opted to sew the elastic. My usual size was too big, I had to compare with another pattern of mine to get a proper size….i I didn’t see myself unstitching all the elastics….Happy with both of my dresses.

    As soon as I saw this pattern I was desperate to make it! I loved everything about it. I had some gorgeous viscose in my stash originally destined for something else, but it was perfect for this. My first ever dress, first time shirring, first time sewing a delicate fabric… and it turned out great! Instructions are typically scant, but the construction isn’t complicated and it came together in one day. I love it!

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
