Love the look of this, and tutorials were great. Overall though a challenge for me, little and with a sway back, I found it too voluminous and spent some time accommodating that. Got there with elastic zigzagged into high waist seam at the back

We do a lot of teaching using StyleArc patterns and I set to work making a model for the shop of the Montana dress in my size using a light weight cotton/linen check. Not having quite enough fabric at home for the lining I cut this from slinky lining material. After a bit of a false start, (thinking the shoulder seams must be sewn first), I followed the tutorial and was extremely pleased with the result. The pocket technique was also brilliant. With standard instructions it’s not as easy to match the pocket bags and finish the edges. I will remember both techniques in future sews. Thanks for some very interesting techniques, they are much appreciated.
Finally, before starting, I thought this might look like just another baggy dress but with proper pressing it looks terrific.

This was my first Style Arc dress. I’ve only been sewing for a year and found it very difficult to understand the very sparse written instructions, so I was glad to see there was a video tutorial explaining how to sew the bodice. In the end, the dress was quite easy to make but I’ve only worn it once as I think it makes me look a little frumpy. I really wish Style Arc would add a few diagrams to their pattern instructions and at the very least, it would be great if they could add cutting layouts. I wouldn’t recommend this pattern to beginning sewers.

Have made two dresses in rayon since purchasing the pattern. Seized down after consulting the finished measurements. No adjustments to pattern and it came together easily. Appreciated the video tutorial for the double bodice which makes a huge difference to the fall of the dress. Moving on to another Style Arc pattern now.

Easy to make. I’ve now got 2, and almost a third! Didn’t line the bodice on first 2, because the fabric I used had enough body and I bound the armhole and neck edges with bias. I also cut the skirt shorter and added another layer which was slightly gathered because I want to put contrast frills between the layers. Very happy with my results.

Super fun and easy dress to make ! I am a beginner and this was fun to learn a different way of doing a double bodice and inseam pockets.

Instructions for the bodice took some time to figure out but got there in the end and it made sense once I had done it. I did have to youtube videos of doing inseam pockets.

I did this dress in a cotton/linen blend, in the longer length but will be hemming it 🙂

Lovely dress to sew and lovely to wear. I made one in a light cotton drill fabric my sister gave me (furnishing fabric but light), which looks crisp and neat. The other is a light linen/cotton blend, which has a ‘bouncier’ more crumpled look. The style suited a fuller figure as well.

Next time I’ll make it in a shorter tunic length.

I am a competent sewer, but the construction of the double bodice was new to me and it took me a bit to figure out what was meant to happen. A great technique I will use again, but the instructions are not descriptive enough and would put a beginner or someone less experienced off. There is an option for a single layer bodice though.

Just finished the Montana Dress in double gauze & love it. Followed the sizing guide, but rounded down to a 10. Perfect fit. I always feel a sense of achievement completing a Style Arc sew as the instructions are always “brief” at best. Although I must say there was a good tutorial for the double bodice on the website. Without that I probably would’ve been completely lost as I hadn’t done this type of garment before. I think a beginner would be totally out of their depth. Regardless I’m very happy & I’ll feel fabulous & cool this summer.

Im sure I’ll make it more than once!

I purchased the Montana having seen it on a youtube vlog. I have since made 4 versions of the dress and have a 5th cut out. The pattern is simple to construct and with some minor variations will provide a whole new wardrobe of easy-sew, easy-to-wear dresses for the Summer and through to the Autumn and Winter depending on fabric choices. My sister loves the design and has requested a Montana dress for her birthday in October. Next month I plan to make Denim and Needlecord versions to wear as pinafore dresses. A5-star pattern.

Made this dress doing my normal back alterations and it was perfect. I love the way it hangs, without to much gathering. I don’t normally make sleeveless dresses but the cap came over my shoulders and draped down beautifully, so I was very happy. I have a second fabric to make it with, and looking forward to it.

I found the dress ran big. I measured as a size 18, but I ended up taking the dress in to be a size 16 and it still was big. The bodice hit me at my waist, instead of above it, so I had to shorten the bodice also. Because the bodice had been so large, I cut the skirt out on a Size 14 and ended up cutting it down to a size 12. The dress still looked sloppy big on me, so I added tabs on the side with D-Rings so that I could cinch it in and make it look a bit slimmer. I won’t make it again.

I love this pattern and the comfortable design. I’ve made two dresses so far. For the first one, I made it as instructed, although trying to figure out how to make the double bodice was a challenge, I managed. For the second dress, I decided to draft facings for both the neck and sleeves. I also sized down the pattern because of the amount of ease in the design. After finishing dress two I decided to alter dress one in order to have it fit better. All in all I love the pattern and my finished products. I’m a decent sewist, but I have to admit your instruction are not very intuitive. They could use a bit more detail.

Great style. Easy to make and wear…AND IT HAS POCKETS! I didn’t line bodice. Made neck facings and just overlocked and narrow hemmed sleeves. Sizing true …and not too oversized.May try one in a knit…perhaps dart bodice and pull skirt narrower as stretch will allow to pull on just to changd silhouette a little. Will have fun trying. Great to sew up during my shielding self isolation. Thank you.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
