   This dress turned out beautifully for me! I did have trouble attaching the bodice to the skirt because of the way the shirring was sewn into the bodice.    The perfect summer dress!! I think the sizing is a bit off as I used my bust measurement and I had to take it all in in a few places. Other than that this is a gorgeous pattern for the ultimate summer dress! Will be making more for sure!

   I needed a break from making masks because a nice idea quickly became something of a full-time job! I took some me-time to sew up this summer dress. Now if it could stop snowing so I can actually wear it would be pretty cool – thanks in advance Mother Nature! Btw happy mother’s day Mother Nature.

   The instructions leave something to be desired, but I found some tutorials online that helped with the shirring and a better method for sewing the bodice together and attaching the skirt. That’s pretty typical to SA, and you should know that going into any of their patterns.

   The size fits true to the bust. I did have to add an inch to the bodice pieces and some length to the straps to accommodate my long torso, but it fits perfectly with my changes. I changed the space between the buttons on the bodice so that there were 4 instead of 5, and then spaced the buttons on the skirt to match the top. I top stitched everything for a more professional look. I also left out the pockets so that it didn’t break up the pattern on the skirt. If I were to do this in a solid colour, I would have included the pockets.

   I made this dress in cotton poplin, which has an adorable print but may have been a little stiff. Next time I make this dress it will be in a fabric with more drape.

   Overall this is a great pattern and relatively easy to follow. Made mine with organic cotton fabric and added pleats at the waist rather than the gathers. Fits really well and is comfortable to wear. Very happy as I received a few complements when I wore it to brunch.

   Love this dress pattern. Quick to make, cute and bra strap coverage! Instructions for the back panel took a couple of read throughs – just changed the construction order slightly when I made it a second time.

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:

A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
