Button through "Fit and Flare" dress featuring a collar and short sleeves.

Description

Few pieces of clothing are more universally flattering than a retro fit and flare dress, we have reinvented this classic shape to feature a seam that sits slightly above the natural waistline to blouson a little and allow this style to fall freely. The neat collar, cuffed sleeves and inseam pockets will make this style a favourite for all occasions.

Fabric Suggestion

Rayon, silk, crepe.

This pattern was a success for me! I didn’t have any problems with it. Everything fit together nicely. The fit was just as I was led to believe it would from the pattern drawings. I used a lightweight cotton shirting. Just enough crispness to behave while sewing but a nice drape for the gathers and the skirt.

I very happy with this dress which has pockets decided to do in crepe with French seams which makes it that much more special. Easy to follow instructions. Will be using this pattern again. As a sewer I am only an advanced beginner.

Love this pattern – very easy to make and looks great. With the next one I will make the bodice slightly longer as it is a bit short for me. It all came together so well and I certainly will make it again and again.

Loved this pattern. Have had several compliments from friends/family. The shape of the dress is very flattering with flared skirt and the bodice is either too fitted nor too baggy. Will make it again – probably several times.

I loved how the dress turned out. I made it out of rayon and added 1.5″ to the length of the bodice based on my torso length measurement. I also converted it to a v-neck, removed the buttons and replaced with side zipper, added two front slits and shortened the sleeve length (cutting the sleeves on the bias). I was trying to recreate a specific Maje dress that I had (and ripped) a few years ago. It all worked out! There are many ways to adopt the dress to your taste and I will probably make the dress again and again with slightly different variations.

I love my version of this dress. I made it out of a heavier tencel which worked quite well. I shortened the skirt quite a bit and in a future make would shorten the bodice. But overall a very easy and beautiful pattern. I like the gathers and the collar style. Definitely going to make it again!

Have just finished this dress. I am very pleased with it. The dress was very easy to make. The fit is very figure flattering. The only alteration I made was to shorten the shirt by 12cm as I wanted a shorter look. I made it in a plain viscose but cann’t wait to make it in a summer floral. I recommend this pattern.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
