The Eileen Dress sewing pattern has a square shape with a gathered side waist and a classic round neck. Details like shirring on the sleeves, in-seam pockets, and a centre back split with a loop and button for the woven version add both style and functionality.

Very easy to follow instructions and quite simple to make. I made it in a beautiful rayon challis. I modified the pattern by making shoulder seams so a directional print could be used. I also cut the front piece on the fold. I based my pattern size on my measurements as recommended however, the dress was enormous. I ended up taking in about 3-4 inches on each side. Next time, I was also pay closer attention to finished garment size and probably make a muslin. Overall, a beautiful dress that I look forward to wearing.

Am i the only one who’s dress is far shorter at the front than the back? Due to the curved seam and straight edge of the skirt i find that the hem at the front is 2 inch higher than the back.
On a positive it was easy to put together and initially i thought that the dress would sit right due to bodice being cut as one piece, but it does. No slippage at the shoulder line.
I will slightly modify the front skirt piece to give it a matching curve and try again

I really love the style of this dress and decided not to wait for a printed version to arrive, but to try a PDF. As all previous patterns have fitted me well, I just made it, only to find it was enormous! so looked again at the pattern and realised I didn’t use the test square to make sure the pattern had been printed correctly. rooky error. anyway have remade the dress and love it. but will be ordering printed patterns in future š

I love this dress! I made it in a woven cotton/tencel gingham in green & white and accented with pink/white gingham mini-piping at the neck and waist.
The fit is so comfortableāa summer dress with sleeves that arenāt constricting or hot and just the right amount of swish/room in the hips is so useful. I accommodated my pear-shaped figure by cutting a larger size skirt and just gathering it more to fit the smaller size bodice.
Two younger, hipper strangers stopped to compliment my dress. Many more are in my future!

I had so much fun sewing this dress! I have never worked with elastic thread before so I watched a u-tube and it was so easy. The flow and fit of this dress is wonderful! I could have even downsized one size with the extra room. I made this is a knit fabric so no need to alter the neckband but I do feel even a woven material would be no problem with the regular neckband. I already have material to make another.

2 minor niggles: explanation of woven neck binding could be clearer and a note needed on the pattern to say it is unsuitable for directional prints

How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
