I am very happy with my finished Eme dress – I made it in size 12 which I found to be true to size. I noticed someone else had also mentioned that the instructions do not have how to attach the skirt to the bodice – again I guess it is pretty obvious and the 2 pieces aligned perfectly – but for a complete beginner that may not be so obvious! I also found the sleeve cuff finishing a little hard to follow but again just made my own variation. I made the dress from 2 different patterns, a lovely grey jamdani cotton for the top and a fine grey and cream stripe linen for the bottom, I lined the sleeve with the stripe – which is a discreet touch! I have had lots of compliments – and actually one of the few things I have made during COVD that I have worn!

I will have to try again with this pattern. The end result looked lovely but it was HUGE. I will have to go down two sizes. I was surprised as any other Stylearc patterns I have made have been true to size. I am disappointed that this one was just so big.

I feel a million bucks in my Eme Dress. As others have noted, the fit is roomy and I sewed a size smaller than my bust measurement. I also shortened the torso and skirt so that the dress finished as my preferred length.

Love the the simplicity of the dress, the cocoon hemline, and the pockets. You can dress it up or down. I recommend choosing your size based on the finished measurements – this pattern runs big. I went down a size.

Very simple to make and easy to wear. I’ve made two, the second a size down from my usual as it is very roomy, and that one is perfect.
The instructions do not tell you to sew bodice and skirt together – it doesn’t matter as its so simple and obvious, but you might want to add that step!

I am a beginner and I found the Eme dress to be very quick and easy to make. The instructions are very short considering that the pattern is for beginners. The pattern does not include all sizes. I had to choose the size to buy based on my body measurements and the finished size of the garment. Whatever size you buy, you get one size up and one size down along with it. So having bought size 10, I got size 8 and 12 also with it in the download link.
Sizing: According to my measurements I should have bought size 14 but upon checking the finished garment sizes I realized that size 14 would be huge. Instead I decided to go for size 10 which meant I would get sizes 8,10 & 12. I ended up making the size 8.
Fitting: I made a beginner mistake- forgot to wash the fabric before starting to sew! So I was a bit glad that even size 8 looked slightly big on me around the sleeves and bust area. The back looked like it had too much excess fabric. I washed the dress expecting it to shrink and fit just fine. But no, it was still slightly big. So, I decided to add a few darts/ pleats front and back. The darts/ pleats also help in enhancing the cocoon shape of the dress which is otherwise quite subtle.
Overall, I am very happy with this dress. I love the shape and will definitely be making more.

I was at first a little unsure how the cocoon shape and relaxed fit of this dress would look on my slightly fuller figure, so I made a wearable muslin (choosing one size smaller than suggested in the measurement chart.). I was so pleased with the flattering design and comfort of this dress that I immediately made another in sumptuous fine wool and linen! And then whipped up a cute crop top from the bodice portion of the pattern using leftover fabric. Currently dreaming up a cozy winter Eme dress in a sweatshirt knit as well… 🙂
It’s a very quick and easy sew– I was able to complete mine over the course of a weekend. Will definitely be reaching for this pattern again and again!

Very easy dress to sew! I took it to a 1.5CM seam allowance as it looked to big on me with 1CM seam allowance. I made up the size 12 and I’m a very decent size 12 with curves. I wore the dress without the sleeve cuffs and unhemmed to see how it felt and loved it. Then sewed the cuffs and put them on and now matter how I folded/ basted them into place they didn’t sit right and wanted to drag down the simple sleeve design. It really messed with the look of the sleeves and the dress. I unpicked the cuffs and hemmed the sleeves. Dress looks great! Love the bell shape on the bottom. Very comfy. And I didn’t stick to block colours because I love patterns too much. Finished photo here:

Really love this pattern – a really quick and easy sew, I made it up in a nice light chambray. It’s been really hot here in London this summer and the loose shape makes it a perfect way to keep cool and not have anything sticking to you.
Only 1 comment, it is VERY LARGE. I normally cut size 20, I made this in 18 and I really think the 16 would be better, because there is alot of fabric around the middle. I also lengthened it (I’m 5’10”) so it comes just below the knee instead of a few inches above.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress. I bought it as soon as it was released, and made it up right away. The shape is great, and seeing as I am an apple shape, and have no waist, it gave the impression where the two colours me, that I indeed have something there. I will make it again for sure!
