I bought the printed version of the pattern and made a size 16. I’m happy enough and wore my shacket today. It teams well over short sleeves as a light summer layer.

Buying the printed pattern was much easier than taking a .pdf to the print shop because I always print b&w and it can be tricky to find the correct line. So would do this again.

I used a cotton linen blend for my shacket with a quilting cotton for the sleeve turn ups and collar. I also faced the back yoke in the quilting cotton.

I omitted the chest pockets as I don’t need to be adding bulk to that part of my body. I also shortened the body and sleeve length to better suit my shorter than average arms and torso.

As a result of shortening the front and back body I had to catch the pocket bag into the hem to stop the pockets hanging below hem level. That worked fine.

This was a test of the pattern for me and I probably won’t make it up in the wool I had in mind. Why not? Well, the collar stand fits if you use the correct seam allowance but it’s mighty fiddly and I think it would be hard to get it to look great in a thicker fabric.

I personally feel this pattten would work better without a separate collar stand.

I’m a big fan of Sylearc as long as you know how to sew. Their instructions are light on but if you read the reviews and know what you’re doing, it’s never a problem. Their drafting and fit are excellent even though I personally feel the Logan shacket could benefit from a rework of the collar design.

I purchased this pattern and another and wasn’t able to get either to print properly with 8 1/2 x 11 paper or A4. I wrote to the company weeks ago to ask for their assistance and did not get any response back whatsoever. I even sent a response back to one of their Instagram posts. Nothing. No customer service whatsoever. Very disappointed with my purchase. Will never purchase from this company again, ever.

One of my favorite patterns. Maybe because I saw that others had issues with the collar, I did not–it worked perfectly (was not too short!). I made it in a fuzzy blue/red plaid, and cut the back yoke piece on the bias for a variation on how the plaid runs compared to the rest of the back, sleeves and front. I did have to shorten it (I’m 5’4″), but that was easy enough. Will definitely make another Logan!

I purchased this pattern and made it from a beautiful wool fabric.Caution caution the collar is very short when putting together.I bread the other revues that said it was too small to fit so I was very attentive to the seam allowance .Still had to cut a new one at the size 16 and it fit.I was making a side 10/

Great looking shacket & easy to sew. ***The Collar *** Like a lot of reviewers, my collar was too small. I reached out to Style Arc and they quickly responded and pointed out that the seam allowances on the collar & collar stand are 6 mm (just under .25″). My fault for not actually looking at the markings on the pattern pieces!

Once I got past that issue, the shacket went together really well and it’s not a complicated make. I appreciated the notches at the fold/match points on the hems. I used a relatively bulky corduroy so left out the interfacing on the collar, stand and front placket. I also didn’t add the side pockets as I won’t use them.

The only thing I don’t love is the long sleeves that are designed to be rolled up but those will be easily cut shorter.

If I need another Shacket, I’ll use this pattern again. But I’ll be sure to make note of the seam allowances!

I made this shacket up in a navy and green boucle and made quite a few alterations, not because I had to but because I wanted a few things to look different. The pockets I moved from the chest to the hip, I turned the sleeve into a cuffed sleeve and I had to shorten the overall length of jacket and sleeves because of my short frame. There is no lining on the inside, but I bound the seam allowances with a matching floral green cotton sateen made into bias tape. The fabric frayed badly so something had to be done to stop that process. The only struggle I had was with with putting the collar on to the neck. Didn’t
quite get the instructions there. That mishap is not very obvious and the jacket is great to wear in cold weather or even inside on a cold day.

I absolutely love this jacket. The shape and fit is great, it manages to be oversized without looking or feeling like you’re wearing a tent.
I made myself a linen one several months ago and have lived in it all summer. Now it’s colder I’m making another in wool.

I printed the pattern on my home printer, multi sized, and cut out the 10. It fits perfect, and is so stylish in the plaid wool suiting I used it for, along with matching Bob pants. However, the collar was 4 inches too small for the jacket piece so I had to draft a new collar with the tiny amount of fabric that I had left. Now the collar looks a little large for the style so my drafting didn’t quite work. I wish the original collar had fit!

The “Logan” shacket looked like it would be really easy to make. The collar and collar stand gave me the biggest headache. I cut out a size 10 and when it came to sewing the collar/collar stand onto the neckline, the collar stand was about 2 3/8 inches short on each side. I also checked to make sure that the longest side of the collar stand would be sewn onto the neckline. I was stumped. That is a large amount of shortage, so I reprinted both pieces, checked the test square (which was correct), and placed my pattern pieces over the reprinted pieces. They matched perfectly. I decided to cut out the size 16 collar/collar stand, and that set was too short as well. In the end, I had to recut and lengthen the size 16 collar stand with some extra fabric. I love the finished piece which is made from a herringbone flannel. I can’t wait to wear it. I hope the warmer weather in California goes away for a little while.

I made two shackets because wool was on sale for a fraction of the normal prices. I guess that is one good thing about the endless lockdowns in Ontario. I found this pattern to be much better than a similar one I used by McCalls. The shacket is well designed, quite flattering for an oversized garment, and easy to assemble. I used bound buttonholes since I was using wool coating. Other than that, this is an easy pattern with Style Arc’s typical and outstanding drafting.

Absolutely love this pattern. It is an easy make and quick to sew. Check the size of the pockets on your version – I had to shorten my jacket, but did not shorten the pockets, so the pockets seemed to overwhelm the jacket. Still it is a great pattern and I have made 2 versions.

Fabulous pattern. Straight forward instructions. Only comment I’d make is that it suggests that interfacing is not required if using boiled wool. I therefore didn’t use it-but wish i had.

Easy to make. I found the sleeves a bit too narrow at the bicep for my size, so I made a couple adjustments but I have large upper arms. Love the hem and giant patch pockets! I made mine out of an old grey wool blanket, it looks fantastic and is so cuddly warm. I finished all of my seams with a contrasting batik bias tape. So pretty. Extremely happy with this pattern!

This was a lovely quick make, quite refreshing for a jacket pattern. I had it cut and sewin in one afternoon. I used a steamed melton and a heavy duty universal needle and my domestic machine handled it with no problem. I love the small details like the rounded yoke and the side pockets. the finished jacket feels very current and can easily be dressed up and down. This would look lovely in a herringbone melton or a check!

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
