I have recently gone back to making my own clothes and the Betty Tunic was a great pattern to practise on. It went together very easily and I love it! I found it oversized and not sure if I liked it at first. I wore it to work and received lots of compliments on it. This was all I needed to know that I need to make more! I had ordered the PDF and enjoyed putting the pattern together. Thank you Style Arc! Cathy Hohmann

I actually love this pattern.
But
I have made 2 tops from my size 18 pattern but with lots of adjustments. From the ARC size measurements I am true 18 bust but the finished size had an extra 40cm in the bust, so I had to take the sides in A LOT so it wasn’t a tent! The neck is a bit wide too.
So, clearly I’ve got the wrong size pattern. Frustrating! I have subsequently learned from the ARC sewists fb group that you should use the sizing for the finished product. Too late for my Betty! I don’t have a size 6 pattern in what I purchased.
Now to my tops … they are shortened and turned up hem on the sleeves (because with the side seam adjustment I couldn’t use the facing). My favourite is made from a soft vintage cotton sheet. The other might improve with age as it is linen and a bit too stiff for this boxy style.
A few life lessons for me when using this pattern, but no regrets.

I chose the size for my measurements but found it far too big. Luckily I was able to alter it to fit by reducing 12cm off the width.
I love the sleeve cuff, very stylish.
Alovely light and comfortable top.

A very nice easy pattern.
I would make this again.
I made my first in a light weight tencel and found the neckline could do with widening next time I will lengthen the bias facing and remove the ease.
I am very glad I went down a size, being short I did not want the top to swamp me. The to looks good and I am sure I will get a lot of wear out of it.

Love this top. Have made two now, very
flattering and so comfortable looks great with baggy pants.
Pattern went together really well easy actually. Even after losing weight it looks good no need to alter.
Use PDF patterns and enjoy putting them together.

Enjoyed making this. Love the facings on the sleeves. However, I bought a size 14 and I would be a 16 on the bottom and have taken it in at least 6 inches all round and it is still loose enough. Have added to the bottom length substantially to get it cover what I wanted but would defintely use again. Neckline just right and making in linen is perfect for the neck facing.

Good pattern – true to the picture both in size and style. The neck facing is a bit fussy but possibly good for people without an overlocker.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
