Absolutely lovely pattern which turned out beautifully! Easy to make although it’s a while since I put in an invisible zip! The instructions were good and I’ll definitely be making several of these dresses once I’ve finished some other Style Arc projects! This dress fits perfectly and will be a much loved summer dress!

I made the Trinnie dress to wear to our son’s wedding at the weekend. I did have to omit the bottom band because I did not have enough fabric. I also took up the dress by 1.5 inches because it would have been too long otherwise. I had many nice compliments. I made version B.

I made the sleeved version in size 18. I made a test toile in cheap gingham first which revealed the large number of panels in the skirt that are not easily obvious in the cartoon or photos. This therefore requires matching of the horizontal lines or a fabric in a small sized print.
The effect of the waistband and hem band was also lost – a contrasting fabric or cutting these pieces on the diagonal for example would look better. The check cartoon was quite misleading here.
The neckline was too high on my throat and the gathers spread as indicated produced an unflattering matronly mono-boob!
I then repeated the dress in a cotton sateen with a small dot pattern, cutting the bands at 90 degrees to the dress. I lowered the front neck between the shoulder by 1″, condensed the waist gathers more tightly around the CF and inserted a pocket on the side seam. This gave a much better result.
The instructions supplied were extremely scant and required prior sewing skills in my opinion. That is the greatest area here that needs improvement. Nevertheless, I’ll try the sleeveless option, checking the neckline before I cut.
And I’ll cut a pocket. Always must have a pocket!

I bought this dress because I was looking for something comfortable and stylish to wear to work. I think that this was a pretty simple make really. It did need some adjustment for me a I have a relatively long waist and short legs. Also I needed to shorten the area between the neckline and my upper bust as there was too much fabric in this part of the garment. Otherwise I love this dress and have worn it on a number of occasions. I am 59 and about to be 60 at any moment – I thought this dress was flattering and it would suit any number of woman and body types.

I have purchased and sewed several Style Arc patterns for tops and blouses in the past, but this is the first dress pattern I have sewn. As soon as I saw the pattern, I knew I would like to make it for the coming British summer. (Yes, we do have days of sunshine and warmth!). I liked the fitted bodice and gathers at the neck (which sits just above the collar bone), and felt the style would suit someone in her 60’s as well as younger women. I am pleased with the result. I sewed a size 16, and only made a couple of adjustments – 1½” off the length and a narrower waistband to suit my shape around the midriff. I used a STOF 100% cotton fabric (purchased from http://www.minerva.com) which I think lends structure to the skirt. I also intend to make the version with the round neck and sleeves. Thank you, Style Arc, for another must-sew pattern! https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=2273551586125115&set=pcb.2273551866125087 https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=2273551716125102&set=pcb.2273551866125087

How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
